Nottingham-based civil and electrical engineering firm McCann has hit a major landmark after the company surpassed 2,000,000 consecutive hours without an incident and maintained its accident frequency rate (AFR) for RIDDOR reportable incidents at zero.
McCann puts a strong emphasis on its internal health and safety culture and this has been reflected in the company’s awards in recent years. Following the award of the Fluor Spirit of Safety in 2016, the company then backed this up with RoSPA Gold Awards in both 2016 & 2017.
Observation cards are raised by members of staff in order to report potential health and safety risks in the workplace. This means that everyone within the company contributes to McCann’s continually high health and safety standards and ultimately - help to maintain the accident frequency rate at zero.
For company MD John McCann, surpassing the 2,000,000-hour mark was a special achievement - “This is something of which the company should be immensely proud and I would personally like to extend my congratulations to the entire McCann team for helping the company reach this significant milestone,” said John.
“Achieving 2,000,000 hours accident free is particularly impressive given the nature of the work we do on a daily basis, and we rely heavily on all of our employee’s actions and decisions to create and maintain an environment where all those affected by our operations remain safe and healthy,” added John.
In recognition of this landmark achievement, the company is implementing a new charitable contribution scheme in 2018 - driven by the observation cards raised by members of staff - as John goes on to explain.
“For each observation card raised, McCann will donate £1 to a workforce nominated charity at the end of the year. This will be an added incentive for the team to continue its vigilant approach and continue its commitment to health and safety in the workplace,”.
