Damage caused by winter flooding is expected to cost Surrey at least £6m, the county council has revealed.
Original estimates of around £5m have now been surpassed with more than £2.3m needing to be spent on repairs in just three of the county’s worst hit spots alone.
A further £660,000 will be spent tackling potholes caused by floods.
Cllr John Furey, the council’s cabinet member for highways, said: ‘We’re still assessing the full cost of all the damage across Surrey, and the £6m figure is likely to rise significantly.
‘This is another example of budget pressures beyond our control that we have to deal with, and we’ll do whatever it takes to put things right for the residents of Surrey.’
The council said strong winds and torrential rain had so far led to more than 3,500 highways calls, 315 instances of flooded roads and 850 fallen trees.
