Flintshire Council to cut wage bill by £3.5m

Flintshire Council is looking to save £3.5m through cutting jobs and 'streamlining' senior management.

The council, which must find annual savings of over £15m, said its draft budget would protect local services but reduce the operating costs of the council.

Chief executive of the council, Colin Everett, said: 'There will be big changes in the way the council is structured over the next few months. A new model structure with new groupings of council services and corporate support services, with a streamlined senior management will be introduced to save over £2m of management costs. The council will be reducing the size of its workforce to save a further £1.5m.

'We are grateful for the collective effort of managers and teams who have worked hard on reviewing the ways we work, changing services, and reducing basic costs, to help with the drive to achieve our financial targets to meet the first priority of protecting local services.'

Leader of the council, Aaron Shotton, said the council had lived 'within its means' by setting annual council tax increases and would expect a rise of no more than 3.5% this financial year.

The draft budget will be considered at a full council meeting 18 February.
