More than a third of local government pay scales are likely to be deleted by 2020, delegates at Unison's annual conference have heard.
Speaking on behalf of the national joint council (NJC) committee, Emma Proctor said implementing the national living wage could see over a third of the NJC Green Book pay spine deleted over the next four years.
Delegates at the conference have called for action on NJC pay spine, voting in favour of developing pay and grading guidance with the Local Government Association and other trade unions.
Head of local government, Heather Wakefield, warned that the 1% pay cap was having a massive impact of council staff, calling it a 'poisonous Tory cocktail, eating away at your living standards'.
