Seven local authorities have set aside a total of £20m to support local government reorganisation (LGR).

Worcestershire County Council, Bromsgrove District Council, Malvern Hills District Council, Wychavon District Council, Wyre Forest District Council, Worcester City Council and Redditch Borough Council will be replaced with either a single unitary authority or two unitary authorities as part of the Government’s LGR programme.

In a joint statement, the councils said that while national implementation grants ‘are intended to assist with transition costs, effective service set up and governance arrangements’, they will not cover all the expected costs of reorganisation ‘under either model’.
