The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has launched a health and safety investigation into a local water park after the death of an 11-year-old girl.
Emergency services were called to Liquid Leisure after the girl went missing on 6 August. She was found after a two-hour search and taken to Wexham Park Hospital, where she later died.
The girl’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
The council has ordered the water park to remain closed while the local authority conducts an investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy.
A spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead said: ‘We are in the early stages of conducting a health and safety investigation into the tragic incident at Liquid Leisure to determine any potential breaches under relevant health and safety legislation.
‘Alongside this, in light of the recent fatality, we have served a notice prohibiting all recreational activities associated with the lake until Liquid Leisure has satisfied the council they have suitable and sufficient risk assessments to prevent or reduce the risk of drowning.’
The spokesperson added: ‘We would again like to express our deepest condolences to the girl’s family and friends.’
