Warwickshire County Council has insisted it isn't a 'party pooper' despite urging football fans to be healthy during the World Cup.
The council fears the start of the international competition on Thursday will be accompanied by an 'array of bad habits' such as smoking, over-eating and drinking.
'We're not trying to be party poopers, but it's important for people to realise the health risks linked to over-indulging in food or alcohol,' cllr Bob Stevens, the town hall's portfolio holder for health, said.
'We are simply asking people to think about what they are eating, what they are drinking, and consider their behaviour during the World Cup campaign.'
Cllr Maggie O'Rourke, the county council's chairman of the Adult, Social Care and Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said: 'We understand everyone wants to have a good time, but this can be done in a way where the health issues are taken into account.'
