A Government consultation on plans that aim to ‘deliver greater growth’ for Greater Merseyside has been launched.
The Department of Communities and Local Government has invited people and organisations to respond to a proposal to establish a combined authority for Greater Merseyside by 22 January.
Halton BC, Liverpool City Council, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral MBCs, and the Merseyside Integrated Transport Authority believe ‘fragmentation and lack of integration’ are among the reasons why the area’s economy is not achieving its full potential.
The consultation document read: ‘As issues will no longer need to be considered or ratified by a number of bodies, the decision making process will become faster and more efficient.
‘This, in turn, will lead to improvements in the economic conditions of the area, as well as in the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.’
Parliament is expected to approve the proposals as long as they meet the statutory conditions and ‘command wide local support’.
