Local authorities across the North and Midlands could see significant Labour gains as voters head to the polls on Thursday, according to YouGov.
Polling across 16 key English local authority battlegrounds found Labour likely to take control of Milton Keynes and Hyndburn and come close in Tamworth, Thurrock and Walsall, with victory for the party ‘definitely within reach’ in Norwich but too close to call.
According to YouGov, Starmer’s party is also expected to advance, but probably not take control, in North East Lincolnshire, currently under Conservative control, Rugby and Peterborough.
Labour should hold on in Lincoln, but despite a tight race in Hull, it is likely the Liberal Democrats will retain control.
In better news for the Tories, the party should keep a hold of Solihull and make gains in Reigate and Banstead.
YouGov predicts Colchester, Stockport and Sheffield will remain in no overall control.
