Lib Dems call for the end of eco-towns 'gimmick'

Laura Sharman

The Government must abandon eco-towns gimmick and set tough environmental standards, argues Liberal Democrat Shadow Housing Minister, Sarah Teather.

Commenting on the launch of the second round of eco-town consultation by Margaret Beckett, Teather said: “Ministers are using their eco-towns policy to hide their failure to demand proper environmental standards from all new developments.

“Allowing eco-town homes to get away with just Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes makes a mockery of their environmental claims.

“The Government must abandon this eco-gimmick and set tough environmental standards for all new homes and developments.”
