Local Government Awards Northern Ireland winners announced

The 2012 Local Government Awards Northern Ireland has named assistant director of leisure at Lisburn City Council, Brendan Courteney, employee of the year.

Staff members at Lisburn City Council, Alderman Leathem and Cllr Mackin, were awarded with the prize for best initiative for the ‘Benefits take up pilot programme’, while Antrim BC’s customer service team was named best local authority service team.

Belfast City Council won the best joint initiative award for the ‘super connected Belfast’ project.

Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) president, Cllr Seán McPeake, said: ‘You should consider these awards as a prompt to action.

‘Make no mistake, we do a lot well, right across councils within the North of Ireland there are very good services, dedicated individuals and many examples of innovation – so I look forward to hearing more about the achievements of our councils over the next 12 months.’

Best Local Authority Service Team – Award Partner Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE):

Antrim Borough Council – Customer Services Team

 

Best Initiative by a Councillor or Councillors – Award Partner National Association of Councillors (NAC):

Alderman Leathem & Cllr Mackin of Lisburn City Council - the ‘Benefit take up pilot programme’

 

Best Sustainable Development Initiative – Sustainable Economy - Award Partner Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA):

Coleraine BC for The Portrush / Portstewart Environmental Improvement Programme

 

Human Resource Services Award – Award Partner Northern Ireland Joint Council for Local Government Services (NIJC):

Lisburn City Council - ‘HR 20:20 – Developing a clear vision for the future through continuous improvement’

 

Best European Funded Project - Award Partner Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA):

Belfast City Council and the ‘Belfast Enterprise Academy’

 

Best Joint Initiative – Award Partner Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE):

Belfast City Council for ‘Super Connected Belfast’

 

Employee of the Year – Award Partner William Johnston Memorial Trust (WJMT):

Brendan Courtney, assistant director of leisure (sports services) at Lisburn City Council
