Winners announced for 2012 Street Design Awards

The winners of the 2012 Street Design Awards have been announced, proving that local authorities are continuing to deliver high quality projects even in the face of budget cuts and financial constraints.

The Awards – which have been running for over 25 years – recognise best practice and innovation in street design schemes across the UK.

The results are:

Urban Green Space:

Winner – Ladywell Fields, BDP for London Borough of Lewisham

Runner-up – Barnes Park, Sunderland City Council

Highly Commended – Stevenage Town Centre Gardens, HTA Landscape Design for Stevenage Council

Public Lighting:

Winner – Marine Walk, Sunderland City Council

Runner-up – Exhibition Road, Project Centre for The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Community-led Design:

Winner - Boundary Gardens, Arnold, LDA Design for Tower Hamlets Council

Ruuner-up - DIY Streets project; Turnpike Lane/West Green Area, London Borough of Haringey

Pedestrian Environment:

Winner – Corby George Street, Corby Borough Council, Northamptonshire County Council, WNDC and MGWSP Northamptonshire Highways  

Runner-up – The Groves Riverside, Chester Renaissance and Cheshire West and Chester Council

Highly Commended – Worcester Waterfront Project, Worcester City Council

Children’s Play:

Winner – Arnos Park Play Area, Enfield Council

Runner-up – Sandwell Valley Adventure Playground, Sandwell MBC

Highways:

Winner – Nelson High Street, Pendle Borough Council

The Editor’s Choice Award – awarded to the scheme that scored consistently high in several categories and impressed the judges with its overall transformation – has been awarded to Next Wave, Bexhill Seafront from Rother District Council.
