Executive Director Environment and Economy
Bournemouth Borough Council
30 June 2012
Regularly voted the UK top coastal destination Bournemouth has a well deserved reputation for the quality of its environment, innovation in economic regeneration and achievements across a wide range of services – housing, waste collection, environmental health and of course tourism.
The Council has won a number of awards for regeneration and for establishing new delivery partnerships such as the Bournemouth Development Company and BH Live and the Council has a key role in public, private and voluntary sector partnerships on town centre, tourism and community regeneration.
You will lead the Council’s work on a number of essential services – Planning and Transport; Waste, Street Cleaning, Town Centre Delivery; Housing; Environmental Health and Consumer Services; Community Regeneration; Tourism and Arts. You will be responsible for coordinating services to ensure “game changing” outcomes will be delivered for residents and businesses and the attainment of its priorities of improving our environment and establishing a thriving economy. You will play a lead role in key projects such as Regenerating Boscombe, improving the night time economy and our new Seafront strategy. Experience of delivering a major regeneration project is essential.
As Executive Director, reporting to the Chief Executive and advising elected members, you will need not only the passion to succeed, but also the ability to articulate a vision that excites our partners and our staff, but most of all embraces the aspiration of the Council to be a great Council in a greater town.
Whilst you will therefore need senior experience of working in a public policy context, of equal importance is your commitment to driving improvements, promoting innovative, creative, effective partnership working not only in Bournemouth but across the region.
