Council Reorganisation
Due to the extensive changes brought about by local government reorganisation, we have created an index to show which two-tier councils have been replaced by unitary councils. In the left hand column are the names of the councils that were in force until reorganisation took place. The centre column contains the names of unitary councils and the right hand column indicates when the unitary councils came into effect.
Those councils marked with an asterisk have not been abolished but part of their area has become unitary and thus that county council will no longer have responsibility for that area.
