LGN Street Design Awards

Established in 1986, the prestigious Local Government News Street Design Awards aims to reward innovation and good practice in urban street design schemes undertaken by, or on behalf of, local authorities. These will all have been completed within five years of our closing date of 30th April 2010.

Over the years, the number of entries submitted to the Street Design Awards continues to grow and each year we receive well over 100 entries. The winners, who are chosen by an independent panel of experts, are featured in the August issue of the Local Government News.

The awards are broken down into seven categories:

Pedestrian Environment – including town centre schemes and pedestrian priority solutions.

Highways – including traffic-calming schemes and environmental improvements.

Urban Green Space – including new or refurbished parks, open space or small gardens.

Home Zones – including newly completed schemes or theoretical designs within existing or new build residential areas.

Lighting – including street lighting, uplighting of public buildings and innovative use of light, taking into account energy efficiency measures.

Waterways – including any regeneration that has enhanced or made use of Britain’s network of waterways.

Children’s Play – including refurbished or new play facilities and areas.
