Two councils in Wales are to test out new ways to deliver ‘better and more efficient’ public transport.
The Vale of Glamorgan and Ceredigion councils will each receive £100,000 from the Welsh Government to run trials involving conventional buses, community transport and local authority services over the next year.
The projects will examine ways to improve rural public transport and encourage more people to use services and look at the potential for discounted bus travel for young people and those out work.
The Vale of Glamorgan will establish a collaborative team to procure and manage services to reduce costs while Ceredigion will look at how its in-house vehicles can combine with local buses to provide services for health and social care.
The two councils will collaborate on their findings and draw on best practice from other local authorities. Their findings will be evaluated by the Bus Advisory Group who will advise ministers on what schemes could be rolled out across Wales.
