UK’s worst roads for congestion revealed

The UK is the sixth worst for traffic congestion in Europe, with drivers wasting 30 hours a year in gridlocks, according to a new report.

The 2013 Annual INRIX Traffic Scorecard shows that traffic congestion was up in nine of the 18 UK cities analyses, with Londoners facing the worst congestion. Drivers in the capital sat in traffic for 82 hours last year, 10 hours more than in 2012.

Those driving in Greater Manchester spent 46 hours in traffic, with both Merseyside and South Nottinghamshire seeing 39 hours of congestion.

For the first time, the Scorecard also identified the worst roads for traffic in the UK. It showed the top ten worst roads were all in London, with the most congested being the A4 between central London and the M4. These road is responsible for 91 hours delay per year.

Bryan Mistele, president and CEO of INRIX, said: ‘So goes traffic, so goes the economy. While bad news for drivers, increases in traffic congestion in Europe are signs of a slowly recovering economy.’
