Swansea City Council leader David Phillips has resigned from his post in order to focus on promoting the region’s national profile.
The news comes only a week after the Labour leader sacked two cabinet members, with reports anticipating an imminent leadership challenge.
Philips had led the council’s Labour group for decade, the party holding power at the town hall for the past two years.
Philips told the BBC that he would give his ‘complete support to the new cabinet and the group as we work to continue to deliver on our manifesto commitments for the good of the people of Swansea and the wider region’.
