Suffolk County Council leader Mark Bee has confirmed he will step down from the town hall in May.
Bee had been leader at the town hall since 2011 but today confirmed he would not seek re-election to the leadership of the Conservative Group.
His decision to stand down comes just a year after he defeated a leadership challenge from a former cabinet member.
The Conservative Group confirmed it would elect a new leader at its annual meeting next week.
A statement from the group said: 'Over the course of his four years as leader, Mark has overseen budget savings of around £130m, as the council has redesigned services to be more efficient and more effective at meeting the needs of residents.
'He was responsible for securing the investment in better broadband for Suffolk, and being the first county in the country to secure a second contact to roll out superfast broadband.
'A hallmark of his time as leader has been the way he has built partnerships between organisations, both within the public sector and beyond. His work with the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership in particular has helped secure vital funding for major projects in our county.
