Salford City Council is collecting savings ideas from members of the public and staff in a bid to make £25m cuts this year.
Issuing a ‘SOS’ – Suggest Our Savings – to the local community, Salford has deployed ballot boxes and an online submissions form to collect sensible ideas on how to save funds.
All responses will go to the city council’s leadership team, which assess whether the suggestions can be effectively put into practice.
With the town hall forced to cut £81m from its budget over the next three years, city mayor, Ian Stewart, said: ‘We need to listen to both our staff and our customers – they may see areas where we can make serious savings.’
‘The harsh reality is that the Government is cutting our funding – forcing us to cut our spending. We have no choice in this.
‘We don’t have all the answers,’ Stewart added. ‘Our staff and the public know our services well. We want them to come up with sensible ideas for savings which will help soften the blow of millions of pounds being slashed from our budget.’
