The number of casualties from road accidents in Scotland is at its ‘lowest number since records began’, statisticians reveal.
Transport Scotland has found the total number of casualties fell by 3% between 2014 and 2015, from 11,307 to 10,968 - the lowest since records began.
They also revealed fatal accidents had decreased. Only 168 people were killed in reported road accidents in 2015 - 17% less than in 2014.
The number of people seriously injured decreased by 6% to 1,596.
The figures show that there were 972 child casualties in reported road accidents in 2015, a drop of 6% since 2014.
There were three fewer pedal cyclists and three fewer motorcyclists killed this year than in 2014.
However, there was a 3% increase in pedal cyclists seriously injured, and bus casualties who were seriously injured increased from 28 to 49 between 2014 and 2015.
Transport Scotland reported pedestrian and car user fatalities were down on last year; 15 fewer of the former and 19 fewer of the latter were killed.
2015 also saw a 7% reduction in car users seriously injured, and motorcyclists seriously injured decreased by 21%.
There was also a slight reduction in pedestrians who were seriously injured.
