Political control at the Local Government Association (LGA) is on a knife edge after a Labour authority said it would rejoin the association at the last minute.
Sheffield City Council chose to come back into membership just before the election night deadline. Under LGA rules, any authority in membership by 10pm on polling day will be used as part of the calculations for political control – which dictates who will be chairman.
At the last calculation, the Conservatives had control by only 0.6%.
