A northern council has agreed to outsource services including street cleaning, waste and highways services to contractor Amey LG.
Trafford Council’s executive last night confirmed Amey LG had won a bid to run the town hall’s economic growth, environment and infrastructure remit, with around 350 staff expected to move over to the new contractor later this year.
Amey is due to begin its contract by July and will be required to deliver savings of around £2.25m over 2015/16.
The news came after Salford City Council staff were earlier this week given the green light to launch a company to deliver £10.5m of adult social care services.
Trafford services set to move over to Amey include ground maintenance, road safety, corporate landlord services and the major projects team, while the commercial and domestic waste contract has been retendered.
Leader of Trafford Council, Cllr Sean Anstee, said: ‘Trafford Council has to realise revenue savings of £57m in the coming years and we cannot keep up the same level of service without looking at different ways of providing services.
‘This is just one of the ways we are reshaping Trafford Council’s services to find alternative ways of providing services; residents should not see a change in the maintenance of the borough as a result.
‘The Executive and I are confident that this is the right thing to do to retain services for residents and protect jobs.’
