Liverpool City Council’s corporate peer review was significantly watered down before publication after pressure from the authority, The MJ has learned.
The Local Government Association (LGA) review, which was conducted in June but only released late last month, praised the council for its inclusive growth plans, commercialisation and for meeting its financial challenges.
However, the report was highly critical of politics in the council chamber, reading: ‘Councillors have strong view and sometimes these views are expressed in ways that aren’t the norm across local government.’
