Leeds to invest £142m to regenerate neighbourhoods

Leeds council has signed what it describes as a ‘landmark deal’ to develop brownfield land and regenerate three neighbourhoods.

The agreement has been made with the housing and regeneration specialists Keepmoat and Strata and will involve an investment of £142m in Seacroft, Halton Moor and Osmondthorpe, neighbourhoods in the east of the city.

The council estimates around 1,000 new homes will be built, and it says 70% of all new homes in Leeds are being constructed on brownfield sites.

Executive member for regeneration, transport and planning Cllr Richard Lewis, said: ‘Using council land in a planned and co-ordinated way like this allows us to work with partners such as Keepmoat, Strata and others so that there is a supply of suitable, affordable, quality homes that meets Leeds' need now and in the future.’

'This move is part of the council’s Core Strategy to deliver 70,000 new dwellings in the city by 2028.'
