Devon County Council, NE Lincolnshire and Portsmouth City are among 10 councils chosen to receive up to £100,000 from the Delivering Differently fund.
Selected from more than 150 applicants across England, the winning local authorities will be given help to implement new models for delivering a specific service.
Providing the fund, the Delivering Differently Challenge is a joint programme between the Cabinet Office, the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Local Government Association and the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives.
Successful submissions to the scheme were said to have ‘demonstrated innovative approaches’ to public service delivery and remained committed to ‘trying new models’ of provision.
Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maude, said: ‘The entire public sector needs to do more with less while providing services that work better for local people, and I’m pleased that we can support 10 pioneering councils from across the country who want to take control of their services and leave state bureaucracy behind.’
Dover District Council said it was ‘delighted’ to be receiving support from the fund, anticipating the project would help transform local heritage sites and ‘unlock their potential to contribute to economic growth and regeneration’.
