City should unite around ‘shared vision’ to improve education

Doncaster should unite around a shared vision and borough wide campaign to help improve educational standards and outcomes, report says.

The Independent Education and Skills Commission set up by Team Doncaster Strategic Partnership to review education and skills in Doncaster has today released a report detailing their recommendations.

The independent commission, chaired by national education expert Dr. Ann Limb, suggests the creation of a ‘Doncaster Declaration’, a campaign that would bring everyone in the area together to boost educational standards.

‘This report highlights that elements of all of the key attributes of a model educational system can currently be found in Doncaster, together with the presence of some notable ‘energy creators’ and 'change makers’,’ said Dr. Limb.

‘However, a lack of connection between them, fuelled by the absence of a strong common desire for partnership working, is holding back Doncaster’s progress.

‘If this is addressed by clear leadership and a comprehensive and practical delivery plan to take forward the recommendations of the report, the Commission believes Doncaster can become one of the country’s future leading areas for education and skills.’

The report details 30 recommendations in total and the council and Team Doncaster Strategic Partnership will consult with a range of stakeholders to agree which will be taken forward.
