Glasgow’s business community is being showcased to an international audience in a series of 40 special events during the Commonwealth Games.
The Glasgow Business Embassy, which includes a ‘BioCorridor’ life sciences seminar and sessions on the city’s thriving social enterprise sector, was launched by chief secretary to the treasury, Danny Alexander MP, and leader of Glasgow City Council, Cllr Gordon Matheson, in conjunction with the opening of the Games.
Held within Scotland House at Glasgow’s City Halls and Old Fruitmarket, the Embassy will allow firms to create and develop commercial opportunities with local and international investors.
Sectors represented in the events include life sciences, food and drink, textiles, low carbon industries, engineering, design and manufacturing, financial and business services, tourism and events, and higher and further education.
Alexander, said: ‘For the next two weeks Glasgow is the centre of the Commonwealth with the world, focused on the amazing sport that is about to take place. But the Games are also a fabulous opportunity to sell Glasgow, Scotland and the UK as a brilliant place to invest.
‘The Glasgow Business Embassy has a key role to play in engaging the business community and showcasing everything this great city has to offer.’
Cllr Matheson said: ‘The Glasgow Business Embassy is a fantastic asset to help attract inward investment to the city.
‘It will connect local firms with key market territories and enable Glasgow's economy to benefit from the massive influx of business visitors and VIPs during the Games. Business relationships formed here can continue to develop and flourish far into the future.
‘Glasgow's unique and varied products, services and technologies will be on display to demonstrate why Glasgow is one of the top cities in the world in which to do business.’
